Alicia is a single mom (daughter, age 12) who was recently laid off without notice from her job. In order to pay the bills, she accepted a much lower paying job while she continues to look for something better. She is very proud of normally being capable of taking care of herself and her daughter, and does not like to ask for help. However, the decrease in pay over several months has put her behind.
Along with Saint Vincent de Paul we were able to pay the balance of her overdue rent.

RHBC assisted Grace Evangelical Church and the Real Life Center in conducting a Mobile Food Pantry on the grounds of Grace Evangelical. Volunteers packed and distributed bags of grocery items provided by the Atlanta Food Bank. Approximately 185 needy Fayette County families were served in a little roughly 90 minutes.

Benita lives alone and has been struggling to make ends meet. She lost her job last year, and has been looking for work ever since. She recently fell behind on her power bill and is now facing termination of her service.
Along with the Real Life Center, we were able to pay the balance of her overdue power bill./

Carrie lives with her daughter and her daughter’s 7 month old baby. She has struggled to keep employment, having been laid off of several jobs in the recent past. She is currently in the process of interviewing for two new jobs. Her daughter also works, but her income has not been enough to keep their heads above water. Without help their power would have been turned off this week.
Other Fayette County agencies were unable to help, so we paid the balance of her overdue bill.

Aisha is a single Mom of 3 (ages 16, 13, and 11). She recently lost her job and is now receiving unemployment, but is working at a local restaurant while looking for something else. Unfortunately, anything she makes in tips at the restaurant is deducted from her unemployment, so she is struggling to make ends meet. As a result she has fallen behind on her rent.
Along with Fayette Samaritans, we were able to pay the balance of her overdue rent.

Willie Mae is an elderly lady who recently had knee surgery and now requires rehab. This week her car broke down, and it required about $750 to repair, which she didn’t have. Without some form of transportation, Willie Mae would not have been able to finish up her therapy and get back to normal.
Along with the Real Life Center and St. Vincent de Paul, we were able to pay for her car repairs.

Nicole is a single Mom of 2 who works for her church. However, when giving at church is down she doesn’t get paid. The father of the children is supposed to be paying child support – but isn’t. She has taken this to the courts, but so far to no avail. So when she doesn’t get paid it’s a struggle to make ends meet.
Nicole now finds herself 2 months behind on her rent, and has been served with an eviction notice. She has managed to scrape together almost 1 months rent. Along with St. Vincent de Paul, we were able to pay off the balance of Nicole’s overdue rent and payment fees.

Bernadette is a single Mom who moved here a few months ago to be with her mother who was in poor health. Bernadette is a CNA, but has had trouble finding a full-time job with decent hours and pay. So she has 2 part-time jobs and has interviewed for a 3rd which would pay better and give her a lot more hours. Bernadette has a 21 year old son who lives with her as well and contributes to the household, but it has not been enough to keep their head above water. As a result, she found herself unable to pay her rent this month.
Along with Fayette Samaritans, we were able to pay her rent.

Terry, his wife, and their three young children were facing eviction from their local home. His wife was recently laid off when her employer declared bankruptcy, and then their youngest daughter had to be hospitalized for treatment for a rare disease that requires frequent medical care. Despite her condition, she was dropped by their healthcare, and therefore Terry was forced to pay the hospital bill out of pocket. As a result, Terry has been struggling to pay the bills, and fell behind on rent.
Along with the Real Life Center, Fayette Samaritans, and St. Vincent de Paul, we were able to pay off the balance of Terry’s overdue rent and payment fees.

Anna is a single Mom with two children ages 12 and 14. She is also taking care of her elderly mother who moved here from Nigeria. She has a full-time job and was doing well until she was required to pay back a large outstanding student loan that she had applied for in the past, but never actually used. However, she was required to pay first – and then fight it later. In the mean time, the large unexpected expense was a significant blow to her finances, causing her to fall behind on her bills. She received a disconnect notice from Georgia Power, and was not going to have enough to pay her April rent.
Along with the Real Life Center we were able to take care of her utility bill and rent, hopefully buying her enough time to straighten out her loan issue.

Susan is a single Mom with a 14 yr old daughter. Her ex-husband does not pay child support. Susan is unable to hold a regular job due to injuries she received in her last job. She cannot be on her feet for long, and is also unable to sit for long periods of time. Despite this she is still pursuing other options to earn an income, but at this point is struggling to make ends meet.
She recently received a disconnect notice for her electric, and has already had her gas turned off. The Real Life Center has helped with past bills, and is working to find her legal assistance. RHBC was able to pay her past power bill to keep the electricity on.

The Youth Group worked hard today serving in the community as part of their DNOW weekend service project.
We had a team cleaning up and doing yard work at the Haley residence. With Gordon in the hospital, they haven't been able to get any outside work done around the house, so the youth did it for them. We had another team helping with yard work and clean up at Miss Linda's home in Marnelle Mobile Home Park. Linda is a sweet elderly lady who because of health and mobility reasons is unable to tend to her own yard. So the youth took care of her as well. Great job guys!

Catherine is a local resident who lives in a mobile home with her sister and their cousin, and soon her mother will join them as well. None of the ladies is able to work due to various medical issues, and support themselves off of their Social Security. Due to various circumstances they have had trouble making ends meet. The power company was threatening to turn off their power, and they were facing eviction if their overdue rent was not paid by March 6th.
Along with the Real Life Center, Fayette Samaritans, and St. Vincent De Paul, we were able to pay off the balance of Catherine’s bills and overdue rent.

Steve and his family were facing eviction this week. He was laid off from work in January, and is struggling to make ends meet for his family of five. He and his wife have three young children. Although he has found a part-time job, the income hasn’t been enough to pay all the bills.
Along with the Real Life Center we were able to pay off the balance of Steve’s overdue rent and payment fees.

Thanks to the Thursday morning Ladies Bible Study group for collecting 10 bags/boxes of groceries and diapers this week in support of Fayette Samaritans. Fayette Samaritans is always looking for donations to support their food pantry.

Latoria is a single Mom of 3 (ages 13, 11 and 2) who recently moved here from Illinois with a friend. They all shared an apartment together, with her and the friend splitting the rent. Latoria was able to find steady work, but her friend was not, so she moved back to IL. Having to pay the full rent put her in financial hardship.
After doing everything she could to eliminate all unnecessary expenses, she was still unable to make ends meet. She was able to find less expensive housing, but needs to get through this last month at her current apartment.
Other relief agencies have already helped her this year, so could not help this time. So we pitched in and paid Latoria’s February rent.

The Youth Group participated in a work day at the 180 Degree Farm on Saturday, working on making raised rows, adding compost to raised beds, and various other jobs that the farm needed done.
The 180 Degree Farm is an organic farm in Sharpsburg that donates a portion of their harvest to ministries that serve the Coweta/Fayette area as well as to those who are sick and financially unable to buy healthy, organically grown foods to help their bodies heal. Jeff is a local resident who lives alone. He was laid off from work over a year ago, and his unemployment benefits have stopped. He is a blue collar laborer who has been able to pick up odd jobs here and there, but has had a tough time finding a steady job even though he has made several contacts.
Jeff was recently served with an eviction notice due to back rent. Along with the Real Life Center and the Salvation Army we were able to pay off the balance of Jeff's overdue rent and late payment fees.

Jennifer is unable to work due to severe seizures. Her case is bogged down in the disability process. Because of her illness, her brother and sister-in-law, and their two daughters moved in to help care for her. Jennifer’s brother works full time, but had health issues that kept him out of work for 12 days, putting them behind on their bills. When he is working, they barely make ends meet.
